The Disabled Tyrant’s Pet Palm Fish Review

Author is Fat Snow Mountain Fox, 雪山肥狐

One of my absolute favorite Shounen Ai books! Extremely well written and translated, you truly won’t miss out picking this up to read. While the protagonist, Li Yu might come across as naive, he certainly isn’t stupid, and won’t put up with any bullshit from his tyrant. He transmigrates over into the body of a fish from the modern world into a historical setting, within the imperial palace.

The tyrant, Mu Tianchi, is mute, which doesn’t make the story feel stagnant and adds another level of fascination when reading. He is so expressive and his personality really shines through, even if he doesn’t say a word. Of course he does get pushy, but he stops when his shou is vocal, which sadly emphasizes that he can never express himself easily when it comes to misunderstandings. Had me in tears in certain parts. Wonderful character.

The twists and turns are delightful in their silliness while maintaining a decent amount of logic, which many Chinese books lack. The side character’s have their own personalities and concerns, with no villains appearing out of the woodwork, just to antagonize and immediately die. The villains appear multiple times with decent plans and the faceslapping, sometimes literally, is hilarious in the unique way the novel goes about it.

This is a COMPLETED translation, so you won’t have to wait for chapters, be prepared to binge read!
